SHIP-MD : Virtual public meeting on paediatric medical device development

All stakeholders interested in paediatric medical device development are invited to a dynamic 3-day virtual public meeting developed and guided by a multi-stakeholder group including the Critical Path Institute (C-Path), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), AdvaMed, American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and leaders of pediatric health systems. The meeting will be held on the 9, 10 and 11 February 2021.

We welcome your input and feedback as we refine the strategic framework titled the System of Hospitals for Innovation in Pediatrics – Medical Devices (SHIP-MD), proposed to accelerate medical device development for the unique needs of children.

Your insights on the SHIP-MD framework are critical in the development of a comprehensive strategic plan. SHIP-MD is intended to incentivize investment and innovation in the pediatric medical device market and to improve public health for children.

What to expect:

  • Day 1: The plenary sessions will provide background and an overview of SHIP-MD, along with an introduction to days 2 and 3 interactive sessions focused on the five key Workstreams: Navigation, Finance, Hospitals, Regulatory, Reimbursement
  • Days 2 and 3: In-depth breakout sessions for each Workstream including focused presentations, Q&A and time for community feedback.

Funded by a cooperative agreement through the FDA, the SHIP-MD Pre-Consortium is a collaboration between multiple key stakeholders including academic investigators, pediatric medical society representatives, pediatric patient advocates, the medical device industry, pediatric health system leaders, and financing and reimbursement experts aimed at innovating the pediatric medical device ecosystem and streamlining developmental processes.
