“The Indigenous populations taskforce brought together Indigenous and non-Indigenous rare disease leaders from across the globe to tackle the inequity in rare diseases diagnosis. The outputs provide a path forward to both close this gap, and also by building through the strengths of Indigenous knowing and ways, to benefit all people living with a rare disease and their families. We are particularly indebted to the Indigenous members of the taskforce for so generously sharing their time and insights.” says Gareth Baynam, Chair of IRDiRC’s Interdisciplinary Committee and Medical Director at Rare Care Centre, Perth Children’s Hospital, Australia

Achieving a diagnosis for Indigenous individuals with rare, often genetic, diseases is crucial for equitable healthcare. IRDiRC has brought together a global Task Force dedicated to bridging the diagnostic gap and identifying solutions to address health inequities faced by Indigenous communities worldwide.
